The New Rich On the Block
By Natasha Dorsainvil

The gilded offspring of some of the world’s wealthiest names aren’t lounging by their pools sipping iced beverages on Monday mornings. On the contrary, they’re out and about accomplishing in their own right. Vanity Fair’s feature article this month proves that this generation of fortune cements the fact that a prestigious name plus the money that comes with it adds up to lots and lots of options.
Some, like Alex Flick of the Flicks of Mercedes-Benz, have completely bypassed the family business for a career in the arts. Badr Jafar, of United Arab Emirates’ rich oil and gas lineage, has found ways to make juggling his affinity for the entertainment industry fit into his business life without letting go of one for the other.
Others have dedicated themselves to philanthropy. Missoni fashion heiress Margherita Maccapani Missoni creates products that raise money for orphans while Kick Kennedy and Amanda Hearst donate their time to an environmental organization.
Yet others, like Ivanka Trump and Dante Mondavi, have committed themselves to piling more gold into their family’s pots of gold.
As for their attitudes, these heirs and heiress aren’t hung up on their riches. Lady Eloise Anson, a relative of the Queen of England, puts it this way, “It’s just a name and a situation, and not to be flaunted.” So, inspired by the freedom that their status allows, these young ones are out to make their own names for themselves.
