Supermodels and Super Money

If you’ve ever wondered about how much money supermodels make, the answer is, not as much as they used to. Long before the global economic mess, movie stars had already posed a threat to the lucrative supermodel empire. Now, instead of young, nameless beauties on the covers of magazines and cosmetic commercials, faces from on screen and on stage seem to have taken a big bite out of the supermodels’ dimes.
But these supermodels aren’t called super for nothing. Models like Heidi Klum (who’s on our Haute 100 LA list with her hubby Seal) have taken their careers and their wallets into their own hands. Think Project Runway. Gisele Bündchen, who made Forbes’ list of top-earning models, has earned close to $25 million in the last year. Even though she earned $10 million less than last year, we have no doubts that profits from her Brazilian shoe line were tallied up in this year’s estimate.

Versatility, tenacity, and the ability to remain relevant, whether through cross industry success, endorsement contracts, and even high-profile relationships are what keeps these ladies at the top.
While up and coming models may have to work harder to attain the status of Heidi and Gisele, they should take a page from the veteran model’s handbook, which would be aptly named “Take Your Beauty and Keep Running With It”.
