The Secret Meeting of Billionaires
By Stephanie Wilson

Oprah. Bill Gates. Warren Buffet. Michael Bloomberg. David Rockefeller. Ted Turner. George Soros. Those ABC News is describing as a “who’s who” of the world’s wealthiest met under a cloak of secrecy in New York earlier this month to discuss what they can do to help the financial plight of Americans.
The meeting, which took place off the radar on May 5, was held at the private residence of the Rockefeller University president on the medical campus of the Manhattan medical school. ABC News reports:
“The overwhelming reason for the meeting was need – that was the issue that galvanized everyone to participate,” Patricia Stonesifer, senior advisor to the Gates foundation’s trustees, Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffet, told ABCNews.com. “This was a group very committed to philanthropy coming together to see how they can join together.”
According to the Chronicle of Philanthropy, the attendees have donated more than $70 billion to charity since 1996. The unprecedented meeting lasted for five hours, and focused entirely on what could be done to help. Topics of discussion ranged from emergency relief and scholarship to U.S. education and global health.
While New York Magazine wasn’t actually AT the meeting, they were able to put together an amusing transcript of what COULD have transpired. It is definitely worth a read.
