Priceless Endorsement from Oprah

While President Obama has yet to publicly support private aviation, his number one fan, Oprah Winfrey, has no problem touting the benefits of owning a private plane.

On Mother’s Day weekend the queen of daytime talk delivered the commencement address to the graduating class of Duke University. Her words of wisdom about achieving success in life ranged from the importance of gratitude to the joys of owning a private jet.

“It’s great to have a nice home. It’s great to have nice homes! It’s great to have a nice home that just escaped the fire in Santa Barbara,” she told the students. But what made aviation industry execs perk up and take notice were her next two lines: “It’s great to have a private jet. Anyone that tells you that having your own private jet isn’t great is lying to you.”

Surely the public relations teams at Cessna and Gulfstream, among others, are relishing in those  words, considering Oprah’s documented Midas touch. (Long before she formed a nationwide book club, she catapulted numerous authors out of obscurity to number one spots on bestsellers lists just by mentioning their names.)

Oprah’s jet is a custom-built Global Express XRS, built by Bombardier Aerospace, at a cost of $42 million.
