Madonna’s Shopping Spree for Property
By Christina Bohnstengel

The Material Girl is at it again, but this time adding a piece of New York real estate to her list of luxury possessions. This week’s reports show that Madonna signed a contract to buy a $40 million New York mansion on the Upper East Side. Her new stateside abode is a four-story, Georgian-style townhouse with 26 rooms, including 13 bedrooms and 14 baths. Located on East 81st Street, the 12,000-square-foot residence draws attention because it is one of the widest homes in the neighborhood, measuring in at 57 feet, and the fact that it features a double-car garage. Other important dimensions of the historic New York property are the 11-foot ceilings and the 38-by-22-foot drawing room.
Though Guy Ritchie may not be there to keep her warm at night, the nine fireplaces throughout certainly can. Other features include a wine cellar with grotto, an elevator, and a Georgian staircase. Reports indicate that Madonna plans major renovations, which will include much-needed security and privacy upgrades.
It seems that real estate, not diamonds, may be this girl’s best friend, as the Queen of Pop has been on a shopping spree for property, including an English country house in the horse country of Long Island or Westchester as well as renting a Palm Beach estate.
