Cipriani and the Law
By Felicity Sargent

Last week the Cipriani family was handed an eviction notice from the sixty-fourth and sixty-fifth floors of the iconic 30 Rockefeller Plaza where the family owned Rainbow Room and Rainbow Grill are located. Like any prominent New York family would do, the Cipriani’s filed a law suit against the landlords with the claim that RCP “Intentionally inflicted financial harm,” against them and are seeking $1.8 million in damages. Though this may appear a lofty amount, the Rainbow Grill was closed for the entire weekend after receiving the eviction notice on Friday afternoon. In response to the whole fiasco, the restaurant empire stated “Cipriani will continue to operate the Rainbow Room until its current lease expires in 2013.”Though nothing has been settled yet, State Supreme Court Justice Marylin Diamond signed an order keeping both the iconic Rainbow Room and Rainbow Grill open at least until January 27. We will keep you updated.
